I use 3D printing during my work but of course I work in prototyping. What use would it have for individuals in their home? That is before you go out and spend £300 or more on a new 3D printer. To repair We were having a picnic with some friends and one of the toys was broken so I decided to having a go at fixing it. By using an oyster card for scale I was able to “trace” the contour of the part to the correct size.

How to machine a cup with a 3 axis CNC machine? Well, one of the first things you will need is the CAD data. This needs to be drawn with minimal undercuts. Parametric design is ideal here to be able to use different proportions: say you want to start with a cup, then move to a shot glass or a bowl for soup. Second is a system to be able to align the features exactly to the same place when flipping it into different directions on your CNC.
